Waterhaughs Footbridge Replacement Works

Waterhaughs footbridge is a well-known feature in Darvel. It spans the River Irvine connecting residents to the town and allowing access from the town to rural walks and estates being popular with walkers and cyclists alike.

It’s a half-through Warren Truss Footbridge made of steel and with a steel deck. We don’t know exactly when it was built but we do know there are several identical footbridges constructed in the 1940s.

We began work on a replacement footbridge on 23 February 2021. This is now nearly complete. We’ll be putting the finishing touches to it shortly, with final remedial works to masonry and fencing.
