Fit for the Road Event a huge success

The first ever Fit for the Road event hosted by Ayrshire Roads Alliance, on behalf of East Ayrshire and South Ayrhire Councils; and North Ayrshire Council has been hailed a success.

The road safety event, which was attended by Councillor Neal Ingram, Councillor Bob Pollock and Councillor Scott Davidson, provided experienced drivers with road safety information including presentations from Police Scotland and Urquhart Opticians, and gave attendees the chance to have a go at the Highway Code Theory and Hazard Perception Test.

Representatives from RoSPA Scotland encouraged those attending to participate in a free assessed drive, whilst stalls from RoSPA Scotland, Urquhart Opticians, Active Travel Hub Kilmarnock, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Trading Standards Scotland and East Ayrshire Council’s Vibrant Communities provided information on alternative travel as well as health checks, eyesight tests and reaction time tests.

Mr Rae came top of the reaction time test leader board closely followed by Councillor Scott Davidson from North Ayrshire Council

Feedback received from the event has been overwhelmingly positive with one attendee commenting that: “The event was a great day out.”

The Alliance is currently working with colleagues from North Ayrshire Council on plans to roll out further Fit for the Road events.
