Overnight closure of A76 Afton Bridge

Wills Bros Civil Engineering, on behalf of East Ayrshire Council are undertaking works on the New Cumnock Flood Protection Scheme.

Part of the project involves the placement of a 15m Reinforced concrete beam at the A76, Afton Bridge which aims to provide future protection to the structure. In order to complete these works as quickly and safely as possible, a full closure of the A76 at this location has been planned for the 21 January 2023 between the hours of 11.00pm and 6.00am. A signed diversion will be in place for all road users.

These dates/times are subject to change depending on any unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather.

Diversion Route:

Northbound

Traffic leaves the A76 onto C133 Holestane Rd, near Drumlanrig Castle.

Traffic will then turn left on to the A702 north of Carronbridge.

Traffic then continues north on A702 to Abington services roundabouts.

At the first roundabout take the second exit to next roundabout, then take second exit to join the B7078.

Continue to A70 Millbank, turn left on to A70 Ayr Road.

Continue on A70 to Cumnock and re join the A76 at Dettingen Roundabout

Southbound

Traffic will take the exit at Dettingen Roundabout onto the A70 through Cumnock to the B7078 and then proceed to Abington Services, before taking the A702 to Carronbridge.

Traffic wishing to head north on the A76 will be directed south to Thornhill roundabout where they will be able to turn and travel north on A76.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout.
