Essential maintenance works – Millennium Bridge, Ayr

The Millennium Bridge in Ayr will temporarily close from Monday 16 March to Sunday 28 June to allow essential maintenance works to be carried out. The public should not attempt to use the bridge during the works, but instead should follow the signed diversion, via Scaur ODoon Road, Dunure Road and the footpath along the north bank of the River Doon.

The works will include blast cleaning and painting of the steel structure, along with the removal and replacement of the anti-slip surfacing on the bridge deck.

A Marine License has been obtained from Marine Scotland to allow the works to take place, and in accordance with this license the bridge will be fully encapsulated, meaning no pedestrian or cycle access will be possible. The encapsulation will create a contained working environment to ensure that no debris, paint residue, blast-cleaning material, or other contaminants enter the River Ayr during the works.

All materials generated will be captured, contained, and safely removed from site, with waste disposed in accordance with relevant environmental and waste management regulations.
