Residents, businesses and community groups are being encouraged to attend a series of upcoming public engagement events across East Ayrshire and share their views on proposals for the Annick Valley Active Travel Project.
In March 2026, Ayrshire Roads Alliance appointed Stantec to develop the project, which aims to improve opportunities for everyday walking, wheeling and cycling across the Annick Valley corridor.
The Stantec project team are exploring the development of a proposed active travel route connecting Lugton and Kilmarnock, passing through the communities of Dunlop, Stewarton and Kilmaurs. Where feasible, the route would include segregated active travel facilities to create a safer and more accessible corridor for people travelling between communities, key destinations, local services and public transport connections.
Stage 2 concept design

The project is currently progressing through Stage 2 concept design. At this stage, the project team is developing and assessing initial route options while identifying opportunities to improve active travel infrastructure along the proposed corridor.
Community and stakeholder feedback will play an important role in helping to shape the emerging proposals and ensure they reflect local needs and priorities.
