Two hours free parking in Ayr Town Centre

Two hours free on-street parking has been introduced in Ayr Town Centre. The changes mean that anyone can enjoy one free stay of up to two hours each day and pay absolutely nothing.

The free parking applies to the following streets, but does not include car parks:

Alloway Street, Barns Street, Boswell Park, Burns Statue Square, Cathcart Street, Charlotte Street, Citadel Place, Dalblair Road, Douglas Street, Fort Street, Fullarton Street, George Street, Kyle Street, Mill Street, Mill Wynd, New Bridge Street, Parkhouse Street, River Terrace, Sandgate, Smith Street, South Harbour Street, Wellington Square.

When you arrive at the on-street Pay & Display Bay, you can use the bay for free for up to two hours. When you return, remove your vehicle, and do not return to that location within one hour, this ensures there is a good turnover of spaces.

Once you have parked for free, you can return to your vehicle and move to another Pay & Display location and also park there for free, as long as you are still within your two hours.

After your two hours have expired, you will need to purchase a ticket at the machine.

Kevin Braidwood, Head of Roads at the Ayrshire Roads Alliance said: “The free parking has been introduced to bring more people into the town centre and help boost the local economy. The two-hour limit means there should be a good turnover of spaces so people can access them throughout the day.

“We will be introducing new ticketless machines in the future and motorists will need to enter their registration but at present, parking attendants will monitor the spaces to ensure the rules are adhered to.”
