As part of its ongoing programme to improve the condition of the road network, the Ayrshire Roads Alliance will be carrying out essential road resurfacing works on the A70 Muirkirk Road, Lugar starting on Saturday 7 October and continuing until Sunday 22 October 2023.

The affected area will be from Craigston Holm, eastwards for a distance of 800 metres to the end of the village.

The road works will involve removing sections of the existing road surface, deep patching, laying a base course, adjusting ironware, laying a new surface course and renewing the associated road markings.

To ensure the safety of the roads operatives and the travelling public, three weekend road closures will be required for some preparatory works and to lay the new surface course. It is anticipated that the road will be closed on Saturday 7, Sunday 8, Saturday 14, Sunday 15, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October.

The road will be closed from 8am each Saturday and will re-open no later than 8pm each Sunday, when signs indicate this.

An alternative route will be signed via A70 Eastwards to B743 Sorn to A76 Mauchline, A76 to A70 Dettingen Roundabout Cumnock, continuing on A70 to Lugar and vice versa.

Further preparatory work will be undertaken on weekdays with Convoy Traffic Management in place and delays are possible.

Electronic Variable Message Signs will be placed on the A70 to inform the travelling public of each weekend road closure, and emergency access will be maintained at all times throughout the duration of the works.

Updates will be available on social media @AyrshireRoads.

A reduced bus service will be in operation between Cumnock and Muirkirk during the weekend road closure times and Stagecoach will be operating a shuttle service via the diversion route.
