As part of its ongoing programme to improve the condition of the road network, the Ayrshire Roads Alliance will be carrying out essential road resurfacing works on the A70 West of Ochiltree starting on Wednesday 29 November and continuing until Sunday 10 December 2023.

The affected area will be between Main Street, Ochiltree and the Mote Toll.

The road works will involve removing sections of the existing road surface, deep patching, laying a base course, adjusting ironware, laying a new surface course and renewing the associated road markings and studs.

To ensure the safety of the roads operatives and the travelling public, two weekend road closures will be required. It is anticipated that the road will be closed on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 December, and Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December.

The road will be closed from 8am each Saturday and will re-open no later than 8pm each Sunday, when signed accordingly.

These works are weather dependent and any adverse weather may result in delays to the project.

An alternative route for Non-High Sided Vehicles will be signed via A70 to Cumnock, A76 through Mauchline to A719 at Crossroads to A77 at Sandyford Toll to A77 Holmston Roundabout, before re-joining the A70 through Coalhall towards Ochiltree and vice versa. To avoid the low bridge at Coalhall, High Sided Vehicles will be diverted at Coalhall following the B730 Drongan, B7046 Sinclairston, U728 Glenconner before rejoining the A70 at Mote Toll and vice versa.

Preparatory work will be undertaken on weekdays with Convoy Traffic Management and Temporary Traffic Signals in place and delays are possible.

Electronic Variable Message Signs will be placed on the A70 to inform the travelling public of each weekend road closure.

Updates will be available at www.ayrshireroadsalliance.org and on social media @AyrshireRoads.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times throughout the duration of the works.

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance apologises for any inconvenience caused during these essential road works.
