A new one-way system on Playingfield Road, Crosshouse will come into effect from Friday 8 May 2026.

The changes follow concerns raised by local residents regarding road safety in the area, particularly due to the proximity of the nearby school and the constrained width of the carriageway.
Following an assessment, which identified potential safety risks associated with the current road layout the decision was taken to introduce a one-way system to improve safety conditions for all road users.
The new arrangement is intended to reduce vehicle conflict, improve traffic flow and create a safer environment for residents, pedestrians, and school users.
A spokesperson for the Ayrshire Roads Alliance said:
“Road safety is always our priority, and following concerns raised by residents, a detailed engineering assessment was carried out on Playingfield Road. We appreciate that any change to traffic management arrangements can take time for road users to adjust to, and we would encourage motorists to follow the new signage and exercise care within the area while the changes are embedded.”
