Free parking in Kilmarnock town centre

Drivers visiting Kilmarnock town centre will benefit from free short stay parking from Monday 1 June 2026.

The new parking arrangements will apply to selected council-operated car parks and all on-street pay and display parking bays within the town centre.

Drivers parking within car parks will be able to benefit from a free 2-hour parking session, with the exception of Morton Place, London Road, Titchfield Street and Sturrock Street (East) car parks which are currently capped at £2 per day.

Anyone parking on-street can take advantage of a free 30-minute stay. On-street locations will continue to have a maximum permitted stay of two hours in total to allow for a turnover of spaces and to discourage all day parking.

The free parking offer will be in place from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm, and parking remains free all day on Sundays.

Drivers will still be required to obtain and display a pay and display ticket or use the Pay by Phone service to register their free parking session. At the nearest ticket machine, an option will be given to “Press Green Button” and this will issue the free parking session.

Anyone wishing to stay longer than the free time offered will simply need to insert coins or follow the on-screen instructions to pay by card for their desired length of stay. All costs are noted on the parking machines.

Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities said: “We hope the revised arrangements will continue to support local businesses, improve access to the town centre, and make it easier for people to shop and dine.”
