Heavy rain and strong winds forecast for East and South Ayrshire.

With Storm Austen and Storm Boelo bringing rain and strong winds over the weekend, residents and road users are being urged to prepare for unsettled weather, with Met Office weather warnings and a SEPA flood alert affecting East and South Ayrshire.

Weather warnings

The Met Office has issued the following warnings covering parts of East and South Ayrshire:

  • Yellow warning for rain: 7.00am to 11.59pm on Friday 23 October
  • Yellow warning for wind: noon on Saturday 24 October to 9,00pm on Sunday 25 October
  • Amber warning for wind: 9.00pm on Saturday 24 October to 9.00pm on Sunday 25 October.

There is a likelihood of disruption, including travel delays, fallen branches, and interruptions to power supplies.

Flood information

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued a flood alert for Ayrshire and Arran.

Rain associated with Storm Austen may affect rivers during Friday and into the early hours of Saturday. Potential impacts include flooding affecting roads, properties and journeys. The alert covers a wider region and does not mean every community will experience flooding.

Travel advice

Before making any journey, check and follow the latest advice from Police Scotland, including any advice to avoid travel. Conditions may change throughout the weekend.

Follow road closures and signed diversions, and never drive, walk or cycle through floodwater.

Preparing for the weather

Before winds strengthen, secure loose outdoor items such as garden furniture and bins, where safe to do so. Keep your phone charged and have a torch available in case of a power cut.

Stay away from exposed coastal areas and large waves, and avoid walking or sheltering close to trees during strong winds.
