Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential resurfacing works on the A77 southbound, with works taking place between the Spitallhill and Bogend Junctions from Tuesday 6th September until Monday 3rd October 2022.

This scheme, with a value of £951,574, will benefit around 31,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out in three phases and the programme of maintenance is as follows:

PHASE ONE: Full closure of the A77 southbound Spitallhill on-slip road from 8pm on Tuesday 6th September until 6am on Monday 12th September 2022. The slip-road will be continuously closed during this period with traffic diverted in a northerly direction to join the B7038 (Ayr Road) and at the fire station roundabout will take the first exit to join the A78 via the A71 (Hurlford Road). Alternatively, traffic taking the fourth exit will proceed towards the Bellfield Interchange and the A77 via the B7072 (Hurlford Road and Queen’s Drive).

PHASE TWO: Full weekend closure of the southbound A77 carriageway between Bellfield Interchange and Bogend Junction from 8pm on Friday 9th September until 6am on Monday 12th September 2022. A signed diversion will be in place and is detailed below.

PHASE THREE: Full weekend closure of the southbound A77 carriageway from 8pm on Friday 30th September until 6am on Monday 3rd October 2022. A signed diversion will be in place and is detailed below.

Diversion information:

Traffic intending to travel on the A77 southbound carriageway will be diverted via the Bellfield Interchange to join the A76 to the Crossroads Roundabout, where traffic will take the third exit onto the A719. Traffic will be able to re-join the A77 at Sandyford Toll Roundabout.

Traffic may consider utilising alternative routes to reduce potential delay in using the signed diversion route. A77 southbound traffic heading towards Kilmarnock or Irvine can take the M77 Junction 8 exit to join the B7038 (Glasgow Road). From here, traffic can join the A71 at Moorfield Roundabout. A77 southbound traffic for Kilmarnock may exit the A77 at Grassyards Junction.

A77 northbound traffic will remain unaffected during this period. Bogend Toll will also remain open for traffic wishing to join the A77 southbound from this location.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
