Ayrshire Roads Alliance and Aecom have donated a new trishaw worth £10,000 to Cycling Without Age Scotland, helping more people experience the benefits of cycling and outdoor travel in South Ayrshire.
The specially adapted trishaw joins two existing vehicles already operating along Troon Promenade, further expanding opportunities for people who may otherwise be unable to cycle independently due to age, mobility challenges or health conditions.
Cycling Without Age Scotland is a charity that provides free rides for older people and those with reduced mobility, allowing passengers to enjoy fresh air, social interaction and local scenery from the comfort of a specially designed accessible vehicle.
The donation forms part of a wider investment linked to active travel improvements across South Ayrshire, with funding supporting a range of projects aimed at encouraging walking, wheeling and cycling. This latest trishaw has been funded through the Dundonald to Barrassie Active Travel Route project, which will create a safer and more accessible active travel route between the two communities.
The Dundonald to Barassie travel route includes approximately 4km of new and upgraded active travel infrastructure, including the creation of a shared footpath.
Colin Clark from Cycling Without Age Scotland said that the trishaw was a “great asset” for the charity, Watch Colin discuss the new trishaw and what it means for local communities.
